Your Questions About Nutritionist Certification

Donald asks…
Is it possible to be a nutritionist, physiotherapist and personal trainer at once?
Im looking at what i want to study and i was wondering if it was possible to do two or three of the above at once.. so be for example a personal trainer with a certification in nutrition (dietitian or nutritionist). To make the services more complete in a way.

what are the requirements to be a dietician or nutritionist in NJ?
What are the requirements ie: licenses certifications for a nutritionist/ dietician in NJ.

admin answers:
New Jersey does not have a state licensing board for nutritionists and dietitians. It follows ADA (American Dietitian Assn.) standards.

This means that you need a degree from a school accredited by the ADA. All such schools are listed at this site:

Donna asks…
How does a person become a nutritionist?
I have a friend who is interested in becoming either a nutritionist or a health counselor, but she is only finding certification classes online. She would prefer to be in a real class setting. I told her I’d ask so any info, preferably from these types of professionals, will be greatly appreciated.
How does she find the classes she’s looking for, besides online?
Is it worth it? Monetarily and personally-rewarding?
Recommendations in the same general health-healing field?

admin answers:
Excellent professional choice! I feel that this profession will become in higher demand in the future. The more educated the person is the higher salary their career can command.
Google the name Ellie Krieger. She is a registered dietician specializing in nutrition and a best selling author. Perhaps your friend can mirror the path Ellie took for her education.

admin answers:
Its a 4 year degree, usually called a bachelor of science in nutrition. Most that actually work in the field have a masters degree. The masters programs are pretty competitive. You take an exam for certification. The college degree and certification exams aren’t too tough but you have to have a degree to sit for the exam.
